Bowman Fellowship

The Kent State University programs in K-12 Educational Administration educate reflective, scholarly practitioners and practicing scholars to lead authentic, democratic learning communities with justice and compassion and toward equitable reform and academic innovation.  In support of this mission, in the Spring of 2012, the Educational Administration faculty established the Bowman Scholars, a cohort of distinguished doctoral students specially chosen for their potential to impact educational leadership for the greater good.

The faculty will expect the Bowman Scholar to embody democratic ideals, a commitment to equity, high academic standards, and a generous spirit of leadership.  Whether as a practitioner in the public schools or a scholar in higher education, the Bowman Scholar will advance educational and human progress through their leadership for a deepening democracy, which honors multiplicity of ideation, plurality, diversity, and social justice.

Students admitted to the Kent State University Educational Administration Doctoral Program are eligible for consideration as a Bowman Scholar.  Bowman Scholars will be afforded multiple opportunities to augment their study with research, publication, and presentation activities.  They will work closely with faculty and join a network of distinguished peers. 

A Bowman Scholar will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship with which to pursue doctoral study and support dissertation research.  Bowman Scholars will be selected every 3 years after an application and interview process is completed and evaluated by faculty and practitioner colleagues.

Kent State University Educational Administration Doctoral Students may apply for the Bowman Scholarship by completing the application form, submitting a resume or vita, 2 letters of support, and an application essay by September 30, 2012, to
