Kenneth J. Burhanna, assistant dean, University Libraries, received the first Library Instruction Round Table Award from the American Library Association for “contributions to the development, advancement and support of information literacy and instruction.” Burhanna received his award and a plaque at the 2014 ALA conference in Las Vegas, Nev., in February 2014.
Joe Clark, assistant professor and head of the Performing Arts Library, presented “Emerging Roles for Academic Arts Librarians” at the Association of College and Research Libraries Art Section’s Midwinter Virtual Discussion Forum in January 2014; presented “Information-Seeking Behavior of Graduate Distance Education Students” at the Midwestern Chapter of the Music Library Association in Cleveland, Ohio, in October 2013; and presented “Transforming Collections and Rethinking Acquisition Budgets” at the Joint Meeting of the Atlantic and New York State-Ontario Music Library Association Chapters in Pittsburgh, Pa., in October 2013.
Thomas Gates, associate professor and head of the Fashion and Architecture Libraries, presented "The Scoop on Irene: The Fashion Designer Who Brought American Couture to the Silver Screen" at the Southeastern Region of the Costume Society of America Annual Symposium, "Fashion and Film," at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Richmond, Va., on Jan. 9-12, 2014.
Kenneth Cushner, Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies, invited featured speaker offering three sessions, presented "Enhancing the Intercultural Competence of Teachers and Students" at the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Annual Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Nov. 21-22, 2013.
Marianne Martens, School of Library and Information Science, presented "International Children's Literature and Librarianship" at the Kent State's International Education Week in Kent, Ohio, on Nov. 22, 2013.
Kay Downey, Collection Management Librarian, was invited to contribute a guest forum column titled, “Is DDA Right For Your Library” for Informed Librarian Online in 2013, and co-authored an article titled KSUL: An Evaluation of Patron-Driven Acquisitions for Ebooks in Computers in Libraries, Vol. 34 (1)– January/February 2014.
