Former officer boasts PRSSA brings success
Being a member of the Kent State chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) opens doors for future internships and jobs, says Allison Peltz, public relations project manager at Marcus Thomas LLC, an advertising and public relations agency in Cleveland.
At Marcus Thomas, Peltz says she assists account executives on several accounts including Nestle, MTD, Libbey and Voices & Choices.
“I’ve worked one event so far, pitched local and national media and built several media lists,” Peltz says. “I am definitely learning the trade.”
Peltz served as the vice president of membership for the Kent State chapter of PRSSA before she graduated in May 2006. She earned her degree in public relations with a minor in sociology.
“PRSSA members are 101 steps ahead of students who don’t join any organization,” Peltz says. “Holding a leadership role opens many doors for you that can help you in the future.”
At her current job, Peltz says she is constantly reintroduced to people she met while serving as a PRSSA officer at Kent State.
“The best advice I’d give is don’t burn any bridges,” Peltz says. “Keep every business card you get and when you land an internship, treat it like a real job.”
