Kent Research Recognized By Congressman Ryan Congressman Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) recently announced that Kent State University was awarded a $571,245 research grant by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the National Institute of Mental Health. The monies will fund a research project titled "Terrorism and Traumatic Responding: Exposure and Resiliency Factors," headed by Dr. Stevan Hobfoll, distinguished professor of psychology and director of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Traumatic Stress at Kent State.
"I’m very pleased to see that the federal government has recognized some of the tremendous research taking place at Kent State," said Congressman Ryan. "This award will heighten national awareness of the remarkable scholars and researchers serving our communities in Northeastern Ohio."
The grant also includes additional funds totaling $1.6 million in recommended future support over the following three years, bringing the award to over $2 million during the course of the four-year period. Hobfoll, who co-chaired the American Psychological Association Commission on Stress and War during Operation Desert Storm, has received more than $9 million in grants to research stress and health, and was recently chosen by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) as the 2006 winner of the Robert S. Laufer Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement.
