Sigma Book
The Sigma Book has taken the market by storm. An exciting development this past year has been the introduction of the Sigma Book, by Panasonic. KentState technology is now reaching the consumer in the form of this hand-held e-book that allows consumers to download text from the Internet and can be folded shut like a conventional book. More than 4,500 titles are available, including comic books and books in languages other than English. The e-book runs on two AA batteries hidden in its “spine,” and weighs less than 2 pounds.
The Sigma Book was developed almost entirely at KentState, with Cholesteric “No Power” LCD technology that was licensed to Kent Displays Inc. The product is now available in Japan and will open in other markets very soon. We will have one on display at the Research and Graduate Studies office and Office of Technology Transfer in the next few weeks. Please drop by to see it. Then again, you might have one of your own before we get ours in.
Early stage research at the university level often does not make it to market, and it is always a great coup for everyone involved. Kudos all around.
