Spring Semester
Fifteen weeks of classes and one week of exams;
January 20, 2009 - May 17, 2009 Spring Break: March 23-29 2009
If you need to apply for a Visa, we must receive your application for admission by November 1, 2008.
Fall Semester
Fifteen weeks of classes and one week of exams;
August 31, 2009 - December 19, 2009
If you need to apply for a Visa, we must receive your application for admission by June 20, 2009.
Students may join the ESL Program for one semester or more.
Summer Intensive Programs
During the summer, the ESL Center at Kent State University offers non-credit intensive English programs designed to meet specific language development needs. In addition, we offer a few excursions which complement our intensive programs. Please note that excursion fees are not included in the tuition prices. Students are permitted to participate in more than one summer program provided the program dates do not overlap.
We must receive your application at least nine weeks before the summer intensive program begins. Please tell us which program number you are applying for on your admission application. We will accept late applications if we have space available.
If you need to apply for a Visa, we must receive your application for admission at least 9 weeks prior to the beginning of the specific program.
Summer Program 1: May 26-July 24 (9 weeks)
Program 1 is designed for students who wish to improve all language skills, but who also need to focus on linguistic skills for TOEFL. Each student takes four classes. The curriculum and number of classroom hours per week for Program 1 is as follows:

Summer Program 2: July 6-July 24 (3 weeks)
Program 2 prepares students for the TOEFL test in the areas of listening, vocabulary and grammar, reading comprehension, and writing. In addition, Program 2 focuses on improving the student's skills in speaking and pronunciation.

Summer Program 5: July 27-August 21 (4 weeks): Business English
Program 5 is specially designed for students who are involved in business or who are planning to study business in college. Speaking, listening and writing skills will be emphasized. Business terminology will also be stressed throughout the program. This program is available at the high-intermediate or advanced levels.
