Methods in the Study of Literature - Extrapolation, a science-fiction journal
Professor Hassler graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron, then went to Williams College and Columbia University for college and graduate school. He has taught at KSU for over three decades and has held a number of different positions in the English Department and in the Honors College. Currently, he is completing a term as Coordinator of the Undergraduate Studies Program and has taught regularly the entry-level course for the major titled “English Studies.” He has also taught graduate courses in British literature and on science fiction.
He has been editor and now executive editor of the journal Extrapolation, which deals with science fiction, since 1990. He and his wife own a remote cabin near Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where they spend a good bit of time in the summer months with their two dogs and a cat.
One of his favorite hobbies is university politics, and back in the 1970s he worked avidly on the experimental programs in the Honors College and recently has served on the Faculty Senate since 1995.
His friends call him “Mack,” a shortened version of his middle name.
