Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language
(Approved by the Ohio Board of Regents, November, 2006)

Kent State University's B.A. Program in Teaching English as a Second Language combines coursework with field experiences to provide students with a broad understanding of both theory and practice in second language acquisition, teaching, and literacy. Our program emphasizes theory-practice connections, draws on core knowledge and skills recommended by TESOL (our professional organization: Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), and focuses on standards- based teaching. The Department of English also offers a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Students interested in teacher licensure must contact the TESL coordinator within the English Department for advising to complete the education minor listed under Minors in Other Colleges.
