Briefly, I like to teach composition through the lenses of popular culture and politics; these seem to be two subjects which consistently interest students and provoke the most fruitful discussions and arguments.  I have recently begun to require students to compose visual arguments in addition to verbal ones; my goal is that students will develop skills to compose for different fields and majors.  My research interests include the literature of British America and early colonial literature, as well as eighteenth and early nineteenth century British literature, specifically, women-authored novels and non-fiction narratives.  I use methodologies consistent with feminist theory and gender studies and a transatlantic approach to studying these works.
