Margaret Shaw

Associate Professor,
Writing Program Coordinator

Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, 

Margaret Shaw is an Associate Professor of English who has been here since 1993. For nine of those years she was the Writing Program Coordinator for the University/English Department, while teaching courses in modern rhetoric, composition theory and practice, and historical constructions of literacy. On the undergraduate level, she teaches writing by women, British Literature in the 19th-Century, the 19th-Century British Novel, and, when possible, an Honors Colloquium in writing. She attended Ohio State University and the University of Pittsburgh for her degrees, although she has worked and lived in Louisiana,Virginia, Wisconsin,as well as Ohio. She travels when she can and has lived in Venezuela, Guatemala, and Brazil.  Her research area is in the history of literacy and constructions of literate women. In the recent past, she has been a Faculty Associate for First-Year Experience Residential Services and a member of a number of faculty and student Learning Communities.She is currently busy designing the use of digital technology tools for the teaching of writing.
