ADDITIONAL PLACEMENT INFORMATION
- Students recruited by the Honors College are enrolled in a yearlong Honors Colloquium (Honr 10197-10297), almost always taught by English faculty. This is accepted as fulfilling the students' College Writing sequence.
- Students for whom English is a second language are enrolled in controlled sections of Introduction to College Writing-Stretch (ENG 01001), College Writing I (ENG 11011), and College Writing II (ENG 21011) based on the recommendation of the ESL Program.
- Students entering with College Board Advanced Placement credit, but who are not enrolled in the Honors College, are given credit for one College Writing Course and/or English literature, depending upon their scores.
- Students transferring from Ohio community colleges are given credit for courses according to Transfer Assurance Guidelines (TAGS).
After this initial placement, students have an opportunity to challenge. If you want to be in the course that will help you most, you need to know the purposes of the different courses, how you are initially placed in a course on the basis of the chart above, and how you can challenge that placement if you think it is inaccurate.
