Banner Security FAQs
I do not currently have access to Banner or need more access. Who do I contact to get the process started?
Contact your “Department Security Administrator.” If you don’t know who that is, go to http://security.kent.edu
Alright, I know who I’m supposed to contact. What is the process for getting access?
The process is explained at http://security.kent.edu.
Thanks. I now have access, but I can’t log in. Who do I contact?
Contact the HelpDesk at 330.672.HELP (4357). They will work to resolve the issue. The HelpDesk should always be your first call when there is an issue.
What if I can log in, but still don’t have access to anything?
That may be a technical issue. Call the HelpDesk.
I’ve called my Department Security Administrator and the HelpDesk, and I still do not have access. Who can help me now?
Dan Roberts is responsible for the policies and procedures behind Banner security. Contact Dan if you need to escalate the issue past the usual channels, but make sure you’ve followed the levels of escalation:
Level 1: Helpdesk
Level 2: Access Management Group (x21366, AccessManagementGroup_DCO@kent.edu)
Level 3: Office of Security and Compliance. Email Dan at ddrobert@kent.edu
Someone told me I can’t have access to certain areas because I am not in the right “security class.” What is a “security class”?
Security in Banner is role-based access control. A “security class” is composed of a group of users with similar access requirements. While in our pre-Banner environment, the individual could request and receive given certain security levels, the new Banner environment allows the university to give access based upon whether the user is a member of a certain “security class” based upon the access requirements of their position.
What is the role of the Access Management Group?
This group processes access request forms authorized by the departments and executive officers. It also coordinates the activities of departmental security administrators. Contact Suzanne Cherry at cherry@kent.edu for issues regarding this group.
