The Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement (OEECE) was born out of the tireless work of AQIP team for Public Service Focused Learning Opportunities and Dr. Andrea Adolph of the Stark Campus. Their work, in collaboration with the Provost’s Office and the Faculty Professional Development Center was essential to getting the new office to where it is today. Without them, this office would simply not exist. The OEECE has worked closely with the Curriculum Implementation Task Force to promote the passage of the Experiential Learning Requirement. OEECE is at the forefront of the institution’s efforts to advance student development through engaged learning experiences. OEECE collaborates with more than 50 different community organizations, campus-based offices, and faculty to develop and offer opportunities for student engaged learning. Currently, more than 50 cross-disciplinary courses have been identified by self-selected faculty as infused with experiential learning. It is the goal of the OEECE to use experiential education as a model process for strengthening interdisciplinary skills, promoting student development, and encouraging a greater sense of civic purpose.
We are committed and excited about the opportunity to be intricately involved in the transformation of the teaching and learning experience of Kent State students.
