Internships

You are here

We encourage students who participate in the NYC Studio program to engage in some type of work or volunteer experience so they can gain hands-on knowledge and build a network during their time in New York City. If students are not eligible to participate in an internship for credit, there are internship sites that will allow them to intern without receiving academic credit. Students must investigate this option on their own. Furthermore, part-time jobs are also a great alternative to an internship experience.

Students are required to find their own internship opportunities. Kent State University and the NYC Studio will assist students, but we do not place students in internships. The NYC Studio will forward internship and job opportunities to enrolled students as they are received.

It is never too early to begin the search process. We recommend that students determine what type of company they are interested in and research companies that meet those criteria. It never hurts to contact a company and build a relationship with them early on. This will be advantageous when applying for future opportunities. Kent State or the NYC Studio may be able to connect students with someone, if we have a contact within a company of your interest. It is possible to find an internship before moving to the city, but if necessary, students have interviewed for positions after arriving in New York.

Please review the Student Guidelines for taking an internship, whether you plan to take it for credit or not, and see below for a list of companies in New York City that have hired Kent State students in the past. For additional information and a larger list of companies that Fashion School students have interned with, please visit the internship page of The Fashion School's site.
