Since 1997, Lashonda Taylor, ED.D., associate chief of staff for Kent State’s President’s Office, had many detours in her college journey but eventually earned her Doctor of Education in Interprofessional Leadership in 2023.

Student Life

  • Wellness goes beyond what’s on your plate or how many steps you take in a day. Wellness is holistic and includes how we feel and how we view our place in our communities. With that in mind, Kent State University's Employee Wellness invited staff to an open-house Service Day in Heer Hall on Tuesday, Mar. 2, to support the local community.

  • What do students think of online marketplaces like Temu, Shein, Wish and Amazon? Kent State Today asked students. Many had mixed feelings about the trustworthiness of the platforms.

  • The Division of Information Technology has finalized a deal with Adobe that will give Kent State University the Adobe Creative Campus designation. In addition to discounts on Adobe services, students and faculty will now have access to top-tier support and resources.

  • This Women's History Month, Kent State Today is exploring different women who have made their mark on campus. Sandra Morgan, director of strategic partnerships and outreach for the College of Arts & Sciences at Kent State University, was appointed the honor of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) at an investiture ceremony at the British Embassy Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, D.C.

  • Cesquinn Curtis is back on familiar ground – the Kent State University campus.  He left for two years for another opportunity, and he’s now reflecting on what he learned about being a Golden Flash that convinced him to return. 

  • Heather Thrush is a nontraditional student majoring in psychology at Kent State University at Geauga, working on research related to mental health care. She's also a competitive weightlifter.

Arts & Community

  • The April 8 total solar eclipse has sparked a new opportunity for interactive poetry from Kent State University’s Wick Poetry Center.

  • Registered Dietician Sarah Korzan wants to share nutrition information to help Flashes improve their diets and lead healthy livestyles. 

  • As part of Kent State's Dialogue and Difference: A New Understanding" initiative, faculty members from diverse backgrounds came together in an online panel to share their personal insights in navigating the impact of conflict and cultural and religious identity. 

Sports

  • Kent State captured its first Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament championship since 2002 on Saturday, defeating Buffalo, 78-60, in the title game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

  • The Kent State men's basketball team (17-16, 11-10 MAC) fell to rival Akron in the 2024 MAC Tournament Championship.

    As anticipated, the game between the two Northeast Ohio teams did not disappoint keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end when Akron took the game 62-61 after two made foul shots at the charity stripe with seconds left on the clock. 

  • Lacrosse wasn't always a huge dream for me.

    In fact, lacrosse in my area wasn’t even accessible to young girls until my mom got people together to start up a youth program that fed into my high school. My older brother played lacrosse and I wanted to do what he did.
