The College of the Arts at Kent State University is comprised of four major academic schools.  Each has multiple degree-granting programs, internationally known faculty, and excellent facilities.  They are

 School of Art

In Fine Arts,
students major in painting, drawing, printmaking or sculpture and prepare for careers as professional artists.  Programs of study lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees.

In Crafts, students major in ceramics, glass, jewelry/enameling or fiber arts and prepare for professional careers in those specialities.  Programs of study lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees.

In Art Education, students prepare for licensure as art educators in grades P-12 and earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.

In Art History, students prepare for positions in museums and galleries as well as for graduate study and earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.



 The Fashion School

In Fashion Design, students prepare for positions in design, manufacturing and related businesses within the ready-to-wear apparel industry.  They earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.

In Fashion Merchandising, students prepare to enter executive training programs and for entry-level positions in management, merchandising, sales and promotion, and operations.  They earn the Bachelor of Science degree.



 School of Music

In Voice, Piano or Instrumental Performance, students prepare for performance careers in their specialities or for college or private studio teaching.  They earn the Bachelor of Music degree.

In Composition or Music Theory, students prepare for careers as composers and arrangers and earn the Bachelor of Music degree.

In Music Education, students focus on choral, general and instrumental music while preparing for licensure as school music educators in grades P-12.  They earn the Bachelor of Music degree.

In General Music, students prepare for private studio teaching and professional opportunities in music and earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.

In Theatre Design/Technology, students prepare for positions in technical, design, or business management in commercial and educational theatre and allied fields of the performing arts.  They earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

In Musical Theatre, students prepare to be multi-skilled performers in musical theatre.  This interdisciplinary program combines intensive study in music, theatre, and dance.  Auditions are required for admission.  They earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

In Theatre Studies, students develop skills in multilple aspects of theatre.  No audition is required.  They earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.

In Dance, students prepare for careers in modern dance, composition, and performance with emphasis in ballet and jazz.  They earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

In Dance Education, students focus on the broad range of skills needed for licensure as a school dance educator in grades P-12.  They earn the Bachelor of Fine arts degree.

In Entertainment Arts & Technologies, the School of Theatre and Dance offers certificate programs.  Each consists of 20 credit hours of coursework and they may be taken separately or as part of a degree program.  The following certificates are offered:

     Automated Lighting
     Sound
     Stage Scenery
     Stage and Arena Rigging
