 Dr. Elizabeth Rhodes, Director, School of Fashion Design and Merchandising

The Cleveland Plain Dealer praised retiring School of Fashion Design and Merchandising Director Dr. Rhodes as being "in a class by herself."   After 15 years of service, Elizabeth Rhodes leaves behind a legacy at Kent State University's Fashion School.  The College of the Arts extends its best wishes to Elizabeth on her retirement.

Professor JR Campbell, new Director, School of Fashion Design and Merchandising 

The Kent State University School of Fashion Design and Merchandising has named J. R. Campbell as its new director.  Campbell assumes his new position on July 1.  The Akron Beacon Journal reports on the upcoming changeover.

Tony Award winning Actress Alice Ripley, '86 



Congratulations Alice Ripley’86, Kent State’s School of Theatre and Dance alumna, Tony Award winner for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.  Read the news in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Akron Beacon Journal, and the local Record Courier.

La Gazette du Bon Ton,
the French Fashion magazine created by Lucien Vogel between November 1912 and December 1925, is being featured in a new exhibit in the Palmer and Mull Galleries of the Kent State University Museum.  The exhibit opens June 25, in conjunction with the masked ball and Deco tour on June 27. 

The Hausmann Quartet

The Hausmann Quartet, made up of four Graduate students from the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music, prepare for a busy summer of competition and studies.  They will soon be participating in the Fischoff Competition, the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

Professor Vincent Quevedo 

According to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kent State University School of Fashion Design and Merchandising's Professor Vincent Quevedo provided a "jolt of adrenaline to the runway" during Fashion Week Cleveland.  Students Andrew Spargo and Megan Rowley also showcased their designs.

Visiting Textile Artist Catherine Ellis

 Textiles artist Catherine Ellis visited the School of Art this past spring.  Ms. Ellis is an internationally renowned artist working with the technique of woven shibori and has written a wonderful text on the subject.  She gave a demonstration in a weaving class and then shared some of her wonderful samples with students.

Ann Rutherford




 

Golden Age starlet Ann Rutherford of “Gone with the Wind” fame and the Andy Hardy film series recently visited the Kent State University Museum for a lecture.  Over 150 attended, posing questions to the actress who worked with John Wayne, Gene Autry, Lana Turner and Jimmy Stewart.  The event served as a fundraiser for the Museum.
