Sustainability Enhancement--Call for proposals

The Sustainability Enhancement Grant will provide $750.00 for the development of existing and emerging courses that will ultimately contribute to the Sustainability minor.

Eligibility:

  • All full-time faculty members at any Kent State University campus are eligible to submit a proposal.
  • The course must contain at least one of the following Learning Outcomes.
  • Students demonstrate an understanding of the 3 domains of sustainability (social, environmental, and economic) and the interrelationships.
  • Students apply systems of thinking to analyze sustainability-related issues in an integrated manner, within the academic discipline of the course
  • Students create integrated sustainability solutions, including technology, and evaluate their merits, with consideration of each sustainability domain as well as the interrelationships among domains.
    • Sustainability-related content must comprise at least 20% of course content in lower division courses, and 50% of course content in upper division courses.

    Focusing on Learning and Discovery

    Educators at Kent State University are taking innovative approaches to cultivating student learning—and students are taking notice.  In on-campus interviews, students have begun to report on the most significant learning experiences they have had at KSU, prompting follow-up interviews with the teachers responsible.  The result?  Videos like the ones you'll find on this page—a back and forth between both teacher and student that highlights a particular course, activity, teaching style, or whatever the case may be.

    Learning Institutes

    Every semester the FPDC has a well-known guest speaker come and hold 1-2 learning institutes with Kent State faculty, staff and graduate students. This section contains various write-ups, flyers and resources from some of the major past events such as the Marcia Baxter Magolda visit in Fall 2009 and the Ken Bain visit in Winter 2010.

    Learning Outcomes

    Creating and implementing learning outcomes at both the course and programmatic level serves to enrich the learning environment. This section provides a series of on-line modules and resources designed to guide units and individual faculty members through this process.
