Spring 2013 Action Read

Flourish: A Visionary New Understanding of Happiness and Well-being

This semester we will be offering an Action Read, which is a common reading paired with discussion and activities, designed to serve as a catalyst for employing new methods in the classroom. The Action Read is conducted for an hour each week for four consecutive weeks. This semester, Oscar Ramos and Dr. Brent Robinson will explore the precepts of positive psychology in theory and practice through Dr. Martin Seligman's latest text, Flourish: A Visionary New Understanding of Happiness and Well-being. Dr. Seligman's research looks to establish a higher standard for the well-being of people on an individual and societal level; it looks to help people flourish in life.

Please keep in mind that when you sign up for an Action Read, you are committed to attend all Action Read sessions.  An Action Read is what the name implies: taking action introduced through a common reading, and sharing the results with colleagues.  Colleagues use the book as a springboard for ideas to try out in their classrooms.  The program is more effective with consistent participation and consistent reflection, which will promote deeper learning and more successful outcomes in your classroom.

If you would like to lead an Action Read and/or have a book suggestion, please contact fpdc@kent.edu.
