Final Day to Register to Vote is Oct. 9 Kent State University students, faculty and staff members who have not yet registered to vote have until Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. to complete their registration in time to vote in the Nov. 6 general election.

Kent Delegation Meets With, Thanks U.S. Government Officials Six representatives of the Kent Central Gateway project, which includes the City of Kent, the Portage Area Regional Transit (PARTA) and Kent State University, visited Washington, D.C., on April 16 and 17 and met with Ohio members of Congress and officials at the Federal Transit Administration.

Connecting Talent with Jobs: Kent State University and Ohio Employers Meet with State Legislators on March 28 Forty Ohio employers are traveling to Columbus on March 28 to join representatives from Kent State University and alumni in the workforce for the university’s annual Kent State Day at the Statehouse. During this daylong advocacy event with the theme “Talent Meets Jobs: A Kent State Education Aligns with Employer Need,†these major Ohio employers will meet with 21 legislators and other state officials to express their recognition of the important role that Kent State plays in workforce development.

Political Campaigning On a Kent State Campus With a general election in Ohio next month and a presidential election a little more -than a year away, there will be many opportunities for Kent State University to participate in election-related activities. This could take the form of class assignments, debates, candidate appearances and political ads.
While university-sponsored political activities are permitted on any Kent State campus, there are guidelines that must be followed. Please review the guidelines below* (the guidelines do not cover student organization activities). If you are not sure about whether a proposed activity is permitted, contact the Office of General Counsel at 330-672-2982 or legal@kent.edu.

Kent State Fashion School Director Campbell and Professor Quevedo Honored by Rep. Kathleen Clyde State Rep. Kathleen Clyde recently visited the Fashion School at Kent State University to honor J.R. Campbell, the school’s director, and Vincent Quevedo, associate professor of fashion design, for receiving the “International Artist of the Year†Award at the 2010 Fashion Biennale in Seoul, Korea. The unique piece co-designed by Campbell and Quevedo titled “DMZ†garnered them the highly coveted award.

Help Give Away Funds for Government Projects; Vote by May 31 Kent State University is encouraging staff, faculty, students and community members to participate in a unique voting competition that allows residents of Northeast Ohio to decide which government collaboration projects receive funding. EfficientGovNow is a competitive grant awards program that encourages and accelerates government collaboration, cooperation and efficiency by providing rounds of funding to government collaboration projects as selected by the residents of Northeast Ohio.

Congress Passes Resolution Commemorating May 4, 1970 By a vote of 413-0, the House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution commemorating the 40th anniversary of the May 4, 1970, shootings at Kent State University. Rep. Tim Ryan, who serves the 17th District of Ohio, introduced the resolution on May 5, 2010. His district includes Kent, Ohio.
