• Laura Schuch, Vanessa Marshall & Lorriane Odhiambo Receive Award at the 28th Annual KSU Graduate Research Symposium Laura Schuch, Vanessa Marshall & Lorriane Odhiambo were recognized for their outstanding Doctoral-level poster presentation entitled "The Use of Geospatial Video to Code Parcels for Predicting Risk of Exposure from Environmental Lead" at the 28th Annual KSU Graduate Research Symposium.
  
• Spencer Baker Receives 2013 Centennial Scholarship Award Spencer Baker received the 2013 Centennial Scholarship Award at the Department of Geography's Centennial Student Awards & Scholarship Celebration. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who encapsulates the spirit of the Department of Geography.
  
• Dr. Andrew Curtis presents as part of the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute's Translational Science Seminar Series On Wednesday, March 20th, Dr. Andrew Curtis presented "Mapping Disparities: Geospatial Technologies Use in Public and Clinical Health" as part of the Translational Science Seminar Series. The series is sponsored by the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, OH.
  
• Dr. Andrew Curtis presents to the College of Public Health as part of their Public Health Speaker Series On Wednesday, March 13, Dr. Andrew Curtis will present to the College of Public Health as part of their Spring 2013 Public Health Speaker Series. His talk will focus on the applications and utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Public Health research. The presentation will be held in the Moulton Hall Ballroom from 12noon - 1pm.
  
• Adam Cinderich Receives National Alpha Lambda Delta Fellowship Adam Cinderich has been awarded a Graduate Fellowship from National Alpha Lambda Delta. The award is one of 23 national, merit-based fellowships awarded to members who are actively pursuing a graduate degree.
  
• Dr. Andrew Curtis presents at the 10th International Conference on Urban Earthquake Engineering. On Friday, March 1, Dr. Andrew Curtis presented "The use of geospatial technologies and local area spatial analysis to understand micro-environmental impediments to neighborhood recovery after a catastrophic disaster" at the 10th International Conference on Urban Earthquake Engineering in Tokyo, Japan. The conference was hosted by the Center for Urban Earthquake Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
  
• Andrea Blanka Szell presents "Viewshed analyses in landscape visibility assessments" As a guest lecture for Behavioral Geography, Research Assistant Andrea Blanka Szell presented "Viewshed analyses in landscape visibility assessments". The lecture is related to a critical review of viewshed analyses being done in collaboration with Dr. Jacqueline Curtis.
  
• 8th Grade Students Visit GHH Lab to Discover Geospatial Technologies On Friday, February 22, sixteen 8th grade students visited the GHH Lab and the Department of Geography. They learned the various applications of geospatial technologies and actively participated in field data collection. The visit was hosted by the STEM Research and Education Center, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Office of the President, Office of the Provost, and HR Outreach Office.
  
• Dr. Andrew Curtis and Dr. Jacqueline Curtis present their research on dynamic fine scale built environments and crime. Director Dr. Andrew Curtis, and Associate Director Dr. Jacqueline Curtis give a talk at the International Academy of Investigative Psychology (IAIP): The Behavioural Analysis of Crime and Investigations 14th International Conference in London, England entitled "Longitudinal Mapping and Spatial Analysis of Dynamic Fine Scale Built Environments and Crime".
  
• GHH Lab Research Team Surveys Waldo Canyon Wildfire Burn Area in Colorado Springs, CO Research Assistants Adam B Cinderich and Andrea Blanka Szell traveled to Colorado Springs, CO to conduct a recovery survey of the area impacted by the Waldo Canyon Wildfire using spatial video units. This preliminary data collection was part of a new project, recently funded by the Natural Hazards Center Quick Response Grant Program of the University of Colorado - Boulder under Principal Investigator Dr. Jacqueline (Mills) Curtis.
  
• GHH Lab Research Team conducts 18-month post-tornado recovery survey in Joplin, MO Lab Director Dr. Andrew Curtis, and Research Assistant Adam B. Cinderich traveled to Joplin, MO to collect spatial video data marking the 18-month anniversary of the May 22, 2011 tornado outbreak.

(Mills) Curtis receives Quick Response Grant from the Natural Hazards Center of the University of Colorado at Boulder to study the recovery efforts in Colorado Springs, CO following the 2012 Waldo Canyon Wildfires.
