Staff Award

The Kent State Graduate Student Senate announces the annual awards for staff excellence. We seek to recognize those staff members who go out of their way to assist graduate students in their academic development. We invite graduate students, faculty, or staff to nominate candidates to receive these unique honors. The honoree will be selected by a committee of graduate students based on the criteria outlined below. The honoree will be publicly recognized at the Graduate Student Senate Annual Symposium Luncheon to be held on the afternoon of April 19, 2013 in the Ballroom of the Kent Student Center.

Criteria for Award

A fulfilling graduate education as well as successful professional development depends on the assistance of university staff.

Nominations for the Staff Excellence Award should describe the nominees’ support, encouragement and promotion of both educational and professional development of graduate students. Nominations may come from faculty, staff, or graduate students, but student testimonial is required.

The following are qualities that exemplify staff excellence:
- Offers guidance for course requirements.
- Distributes information pertinent to graduate students’ academic or professional
- Long standing commitment to graduate students shown through their interpersonal and relationships with students;
- Shows concern for students as individuals (i.e., supports personal development and quality of life of the graduate student)

Guidelines for submitting a nomination: Complete the nomination form below. Please explain on the form what led you to nominate the staff member for the Excellence Award. We recommend the use of personal stories and specific examples.

Each nominator must solicit at least one or up to three letters of support from students. These letters must be mailed to GSS (see the website for the mailing address or drop them in the dropbox). Completed nominations should be submitted to GSS by 5 p.m. on April 1, 2013.

In addition, you may submit up to three additional letters of support for the nominee from graduate students.
