Research Symposium 2012

The Research Symposium provides a forum for students to interact with each other, to share information and expertise on their research.  The program will feature oral and poster presentations by students from various disciplines.  All forms of scholarship are encouraged!  Monetary awards for the most outstanding presentations will be given.  The event will include keynote addresses from Dr. Daniel Mahony, Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services at Kent State University, and Dr. Grant McGimpsey, Vice President for Research at Kent State University.

Dr. Daniel Mahony
Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services

Dr. Daniel Mahony currently serves as the Dean of Kent State's College of Education, Health, and Human Services.  Earning a Ph.D. from Ohio State University, Dr. Mahony emulates the traditions and values of the Graduate Research Symposium: persistence, leadership, and energy.  He has served as a researcher, department chair, and associate provost prior to joining the Kent State family in 2008.  Dr. Mahony served 13 years at the University of Louisville as both a faculty member and administrator.  He became a North American Society for Sports Management (NASSM) Research Fellow in 2003, and won the 2007 Earle F. Zeigler Award from the NASSM for his influential role as a researcher.   In addition to his interests in sport consumer behavior and intercollegiate athletics, Dr. Mahony has published over 50 refereed articles, numerous book chapters, and authored one book, Economics of Sport.  It gives the Graduate Student Senate great pleasure to welcome our own, Dr. Dan Mahony as our keynote speaker for the 27th Annual Graduate Research Symposium.  His presentation will focus on the nature of collaboration and he role of interdisciplinary research.  The presentation will take place at 4:30PM on Thursday, April 5 in the Kiva.  The event is free and open to everyone to attend.

Dr. W. Grant McGimpsey
Vice President for Research



Dr. W. Grant McGimpsey, new Vice President for Research at Kent State University, will serve as the distinguished luncheon speaker for the 27th Annual Graduate Research Symposium on April 6, 2012 at 1:00 PM. His pivotal role in promoting research and academic achievement here at Kent State University will be a highlight of this year's event. Through his experience at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, Dr. McGimspey served as professor of biomedical engineering, associate provost for research, and director of the WPI Bioengineering Institute. He has received numerous awards, raised more that $12 million in research funding, and authored or co-authored over 80 journal articles. It is with great honor that we welcome Dr. McGimpsey as our distinguished luncheon speaker on April 6, 2012.
