Awards Luncheon

Graduate Student Senate's Annual Research Symposium will conclude with an Awards Luncheon.  The Awards Luncheon is free and open to anyone who participates in the Research Symposium; however, advanced registration is required.

The Awards Luncheon will take place in the 2nd floor Ballroom of the Kent Student Center from 12:30-2pm on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Monetary awards will be given for outstanding poster and oral presentations.  Additionally, the Teaching Excellence and Research Excellence Awards will be announced at the Awards Luncheon. 

The Awards Luncheon will be highlighted with a keynote speech by Dr. Sonia Alemagno, Dean of the College of Public Health at Kent State University.

Luncheon Speaker:  Dean Sonia Alemagno

Dr. Sonia Alemagno is the Dean of the College of Public Health, and a Professor in the department of Health Policy and Management at Kent State University. She received her doctoral degree in Medical Sociology from Case Western Reserve University in 1991, and a Master's Degree in Sociology from Kent State University in 1984. Dr. Alemagno joined Kent State University after spending the past 10 years at the University of Akron. Dr. Alemagno has focused her research on substance abuse and HIV/STD prevention, particularly examining public health services delivered within the criminal justice setting, such as prisons and detention centers. She has been awarded more than $5 million in funded research from agencies that include the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Justice, the Centers for Disease Control and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She will deliver the keynote speech at the KSU 28th Graduate Research Symposium.
