Honors College Scholarships
Entering freshmen are eligible for merit scholarships through the Kent State University Honors College. Scholarships are awarded based upon high school grade point average, class rank, and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT). Scholarships range from $1500 to full in-state tuition, room, board, and books. Scholarships recipients can retain their scholarships for four years (eight semesters) as long as they complete the required number of Honors courses each year and maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
Students who wish to be considered for Honors membership and scholarship should submit a Kent State admission application and inform the Honors College of their interest either by phone (330-672-2312) or e-mail (dcraig@kent.edu). A select number of specialized scholarships require additional information (e.g., audition, portfolio, and writing samples). A complete list of all Honors scholarships as well as the minimum requirements and required information are listed on the Student Financial Aid web site (www.sfa.kent.edu).
Current college students are eligible to apply for a limited number of $1000 Honors Academic Achievement Awards (HAAA Application). These scholarships are available to Honors students who do not currently hold an Honors scholarship of $1000 or more, Kent State University students who decide to join the Honors College, and transfer students from community colleges, four-year institutions, and Kent’s regional campuses.
The Michael A. Halpin Honors Scholarship provides $1000 to a rising junior majoring in humanities or social sciences. Honors College students who currently hold a renewable Honors scholarship are also eligible to apply.
The Bengier Study Abroad Scholarships and the Senior Thesis Fellowships are one-time-only awards available to Honors students who plan to study away or write a Senior Honors Thesis. Students interested in these awards should submit an application to the Honors College by June 15.
Study away scholarships may also be available to Honors members who complete a semester or year-long program of study overseas.
