Research and Creative Activity Opportunities
One of the goals of the Honors College is to enrich the lives of its members and society through research and creative activity. We value these activities from all members of the University community—faculty, students, and staff. The University supports these efforts by fostering an environment of free-inquiry; by offering opportunities for research-assigned time; and by providing the material and personnel resources required for high-quality scholarship, including an excellent library with Association of Research Libraries status. The Honors College is committed to encouraging its members in their pursuit of research and creative projects that will advance their fields and fulfill key societal goals.
Did you know that students in the Honors College can begin working on individual research projects as early as their freshman year? The Individual Honors Work (IHW) contract allows students to register for from 1--4 credit hours of independent work under the guidance and supervision of a faculty member.
This independent work might lead to a Senior Honors Thesis/Project, or it might simply allow you to explore some particular interest not available in a current class. Either way, it is an opportunity for you to design your education to fit your own curiosities and desire to learn.
If you think you would be interested in exploring an IHW contract, but don’t know what faculty members to ask, contact Vicki Bocchicchio (vbocchic@kent.edu) for information on those faculty who are willing and eager to work with Honors students.
