Stopher-Johnson Complex

The Honors College community welcomes each member as an individual.  We strive to provide a community that fosters a sense of belonging and stability that helps each student find his/her place in a large educational environment.

The Stopher-Johnson Complex is located in the historic heart of the Kent Campus.  These halls were rebuilt from the ground up, following the footprint of the original buildings in order to preserve the historic May 4th site.  The complex occupies a prime location, along the pedestrian esplanade and close to the Kent Student Center and University Library.  The halls include classrooms that enable the college to offer most of its Freshman Honors Colloquia, along with a number of other Honors classes, on site.  Honors College administrative offices, an art gallery, study lounges, a library/lounge—all with wireless Internet access, are also located in the complex.  Stopher and Johnson Halls are the residence halls that serve as the home to more than 350 Honors students. Students are not required to live in the Stopher-Johnson Complex to be members of the Honors College.

Programs sponsored by the Honors College include weekly movie nights, Pizza with the Profs, and other activities planned by the student leaders in the Honors Community Council.  These events are open to all Honors College members.

Within these residence halls, an additional student organization, the Residence Hall Council, helps plan events and programs.  You’ll have plenty of opportunity to meet students with a wide range of interests.  Policies regarding courtesy hours, quiet hours, and visitation are established by Residence Services, yet each resident has the opportunity to be an active community member by participating in Hall Council.  Our halls are well secured, and living areas are restricted to residents and their guests.

Check Stopher or Johnson on your housing contract to secure your space in an Honors College residence hall.  For further residence hall information, please contact Residence Services at 330-672-7000, or visit the website at http://www.res.kent.edu.
