Graduation with University Honors represents the highest level of distinction for graduation from the Honors College.
Graduation with University Honors represents the highest level of distinction for graduation from the Honors College.
Students who choose not to complete the thesis option may graduate with the notation Honors College Scholar on the final academic transcript.

Graduation from Honors


Honors students may choose between a thesis option and a non-thesis option for graduation from Honors. All Honors students are required to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of Honors work.

 

Thesis Option: Graduation with Honors

Graduation with Honors requires the completion and oral defense of a Senior Honors Thesis. Three levels of Graduation with Honors are available:
  • University Honors
  • General Honors
  • Departmental Honors
Students graduating with Honors receive a gold medallion
 
University Honors

Graduation with University Honors represents the highest level of distinction for graduation from the Honors College. 

To earn University Honors, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Six hours of independent study, at least four hours of which MUST be thesis but all six hours may be
  • Completion of 30 credit hours of Honors work (6 of which will be thesis)
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher
  • Thesis of outstanding quality
General Honors

Graduation with General Honors represents the second highest level of distinction for graduation from the Honors College. 

To earn General Honors, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Six hours of independent study, at least four hours of which MUST be thesis but all six hours may be
  • Completion of 30 credit hours of Honors work (6 of which will be thesis)
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher; Major grade point average of 3.4 or higher; and, Honors grade point average of 3.4 or higher
  • Thesis of "A" or "B" quality
Departmental Honors*

Graduation with Departmental Honors was designed to represent less broad participation in the Honors College.

To earn Departmental Honors, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Six Honors thesis hours;
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and major grade point average of 3.4 or higher
  • Thesis of outstanding quality

*This minimum set of requirements is only available to students who join Honors later in the collegiate career for the purpose of completing an undergraduate thesis.

 

Non-Thesis Option: Graduation with an Honors Notation

Honors College Scholar Notation

Students who choose not to complete the thesis option may graduate with the notation Honors College Scholar on the final academic transcript.

To earn the Honors College Scholar notation, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of 24 credit hours of Honors work
  • Completion of Honors work each academic year
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (3.25 for students entering Fall 2013 and beyond)
Students graduating as Honors College Scholars receive blue medallions.
