The Honors College curriculum is designed to provide enhanced and challenging coursework for undergraduates. Most students enter the program as freshmen; however, you may apply to join after one semester of college coursework with a 3.3 or higher college GPA. Admission to the Honors College is selective.
In order to be considered for membership, students must meet the following criteria:
Students with 45 credit hours or more are required to write a Senior Honors Thesis/Project, a six-credit-hour experience which students complete over three semesters. If you are applying with 45 credit hours or more, your application essay must also include specific information on how these six credit hours will fit into your plans for your final three semesters as an undergraduate.
If you are applying as a college student with a 3.5 or higher GPA, you may be eligible to apply for one of our $1,000 Honors Academic Achievement Awards (HAAA). Should you not be eligible for an Honors scholarship at this time, you may apply for a HAAA after completing two semesters in Honors as long as you have earned a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA at Kent State.
We are excited that you are considering joining Honors at Kent State University.
If you are applying from outside of Kent State University, remember to also complete the application for admission to Kent State University.
Students who are members of regional campus Honors programs do not need to apply to join Honors at the Kent State Main campus. Regional Honors students should contact the regional campus coordinator in the Honors College.
