Welcome from the Dean


Welcome to the Honors College at Kent State University! Our Honors program has been enriching the lives of thousands of students since 1933. Our mission is to recruit, challenge, and support the highest ability students at Kent State. Open to all majors, we fulfill this mission through offering smaller sections of courses, individualized interaction with faculty through research and other projects, the option of living in our learning community in the Stopher-Johnson complex, community service opportunities, personal advising, and several other educational opportunities and enhancements. Our goal is to help students find the opportunities that will enrich their Kent State educations, tailored individually for them.

The Honors College offers:

  • one of the oldest and largest programs in the nation with a diverse student population,
  • membership to students from all majors,
  • flexible curriculum choices (in small, challenging classes) with many options,
  • priority registration and personal/ academic support through individual advising,
  • encouragement and financial support for study abroad/away experiences,
  • access to a unique living/ learning community in the Stopher/Johnson Complex,
  • undergraduate research and leadership opportunities.

As a member of the Honors College you will encounter

  • an atmosphere where curiosity, fun, and friendships are fostered,
  • stimulating and innovative teachers,
  • explorations of the power of the human mind, and some unconventional thinking,
  • challenging courses and rewarding experiences.

The Honors College offers a small, liberal arts experience within the framework of a large research university.
