The Mitchell Scholars program honors former US Senator George Mitchell's contribution to the Northern Ireland Peace process. Sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance, the scholarship supports one year of graduate study in any field at an institution of higher learning in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Applicants should have a record signifying academic excellence, leadership, and a sustained commitment to service and community.
Mitchell Scholars are provided tuition, housing, living expenses, and an international travel stipend.
To be eligible for the Mitchell Scholars Program:
All candidates for the Mitchell Scholarships must be nominated by the university. Interested students should contact Dr. Donald Palmer, Interim Dean, Honors College (email@example.com) for information about the application and nomination process. Students will submit application materials through the online application process available at the Mitchell Scholar website and specify Dr. Palmer as the Fellowship Advisor. The Mitchell Scholarship Review Committee will decide which student to nominate for the award.
Letters of Recommendation
Five letters of recommendation are required. Letters are submitted using the online reference system contained within the online application. Of the five letters of recommendation, at least three must be from persons with whom a candidate has done academic work (courses or research) at a college or university, IF YOU ARE A FULL-TIME STUDENT. Applicants who have not been full-time students in the past academic year are required to provide only two letters of recommendation from an academic with whom they have studied or done research.
