Living Learning Communities


With the intended goal of making a large campus feel small, Living-Learning Communities at Kent State University are characterized by the purposeful support provided to the students who participate in these communities.

If you choose to live in a Kent State University Living Learning Community, you will have the opportunity to live in a residence community together with other students who are studying majors similar to your own and even take some of the same classes you are taking. Forming study groups and working on class projects become more convenient when your classmates also live in your residence hall. If you have questions about a reading assignment or class notes, there will be a fellow student nearby to whom you can turn.

Students participating in a living learning community enjoy considerable benefits, some of which include:

  • Higher retention rates, demonstrating academic success at all ability levels by students
  • Greater academic support opportunities (convenient access to tutoring, supplemental instruction courses, major-focused programming)
  • Frequent interaction with faculty and staff outside the classroom
  • More positive perception of the residential experience
