Leebrick/Korb Commits to Community Service!

Written by Alexis Rogers

After last year’s successful can drive in which the Leebrick/Korb Community Service committee raised and donated 200 items to sponsor their Community Partner: Campus Kitchen; this year they were determined to keep the ball rolling. The committee, which included resident assistants Crystal Haynes, Liz Ohlin, Haley Tennant, and Alexis Rogers, came up with the ideas of having a bake sale and cleaning day for the Campus Kitchen Project.

The “No Cookie Left Behind” bake sale took place on the first floors of Leebrick and Korb and was facilitated with the help of the Leebrick/Korb RA staff, which also helped supply fresh baked goods to be sold. In the end, the sale raised $131.08 to donate to the CKP efforts to supply healthy meals to those in need.

The next implemented effort by the LBK community service committee would take place more behind the scenes involving soap, water and a whole lot of elbow grease. The committee, along with the rest of the LBK RA staff, went to the CPK located in Beall Hall early morning and for a few hours they scrubbed, washed, stacked and organized; which gave the staff a break from the hassle of cleaning for the day.

The Campus Kitchen Project (CKP) is a national organization that provides healthy meals to those in need by harnessing the spirit of student volunteerism within local communities. Now in its ninth year, CKP operates on 30 university and high school campuses. For more information about the Campus Kitchen Project, please click here.

The Leebrick/Korb Residence Hall staff will continue to foster its partnership with the Campus Kitchen throughout the rest of the semester. Residents looking to get involved in this amazing opportunity should contact ARHD Jon Adams for more information.
