residence services | 11/13/2013

The Fall 2013 semester say the annual energy competition between all of the residence halls from  October 18th and November 1st.  The goal of this two week competition is to see which residence hall can see the biggest reduction in the consumption of energy in their hall.  Students are encouraged to turn the lights off in rooms/lounges when they are not in use, unplug cell phone chargers when they are not charging their cell phone and open their blinds and turn off their room lights to utilize natural lighting during the day…all as a way to help save and reduce energy consumption in their hall.  Security Aides were also involved in helping to reduce energy by turning off lights to laundry rooms and lounges that were not in use while they were on rounds in the residence halls.

This year’s top three halls with the highest percentage of energy reduction were:

Verder Hall was 3rd place with 9.7% reduction, Centennial Court B was 2nd place with 11.5% reduction and Olson Hall saw the greatest energy reduction of 16.9%.  19 of the 26 residence halls saw a reduction in energy consumption.  There was an overall reduction among all of the residence halls of 2.1%.
