Hall Council Training: I Wanna Be The Very Best
On Friday, September 16, 2011, the Kent Interhall Council hosted the Fall Hall Council Training: “I Wanna be the Very Best!” The Hall Council Training, planned by KIC’s Director of Leadership Development, Chrissy Francisco, was established for hall council leaders to learn about the structure and purpose of hall councils.
“My goals for this semester’s hall council training were for the attendees to walk out with a clearer understanding of how KIC and Hall Councils work,” stated Francisco. “I also wanted them to get excited to be in their new position and to have fun with it.”
Indeed the students did have fun. The “Pokemon” themed training was a delight to those students in the digital generation. From playing the theme song to specialized program tracks for certain position, and from the presentation made by the National Residence Hall Honorary to the showing of “Pokemon” clips, the students seemed to have fun.
Topics of interest included: how to run a hall council, budgeting, planning effective programs, advertising and marketing, diversity in the halls, Robert’s Rules of Order, and ways to further your involvement with the Kent Interhall Council. A session was also provided for those Advisors who attended: sharing information about the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated and its role for residential student organizations across the world. At the end of the program, four students (Ashley Rothermel, Dan Socha, Sal DeSanto, and Katie Gunderson) all participated in a Q&A/Student Leader Panel that gave attendees the opportunity to learn more about how being a part of hall council leadership can help in their futures at Kent State University.
