Jean Kilbourne comes to KSU!
Internationally acclaimed filmmaker, educator and speaker, Jean Kilbourne, will be at Kent State University on Monday, April 8, at 7p.m. Kilbourne will be giving her "The Naked Truth: Advertising's View of Women" presentation.
During this presentation, Kilbourne will speak of the media's perception of women and how they are portrayed in advertising. Kilbourne is widely known for her "Killing Us Softly" Documentaries.
Kilbourne has been awarded the "Lecturer of the Year" by the National Association for Campus Activities.
Psychologist Mary Pipher writes "Americans think we know about advertising, but we don't Our very complacency leaves us vulnerable. And developing countries urgently require education about the true costs of advertising. They need to learn not only that all that glitters is not gold, but also that it is sometimes poison. Kilbourne is our best, most thoughtful, most compassionate teacher."
The presentation will be held in Oscar Richie Hall in Room 214 (The Large Lecture Hall). Doors open at 6:30p.m. A book signing will be held at the conclusion of the presentation.
