Kent Interhall Council (KIC) hosts 2012 Lil Sibs weekend April 13 – 15. This weekend-long event has been a KIC tradition for close to 35 years. The past few years have been very successful, with last year having close to 2,000 people in attendance, being our largest number of people attending Lil Sibs Weekend.
This year we are planning a lot of great activities around the campus including a Murder Mystery Dinner, Sibling Game (similar in style to the newlywed show), Bowling, Ice Skating, “Finding Nemo†as the Dive in movie at the rec, a Magician, Happy Feet 2 (showing three times over the weekend), Rock Climbing at the Rec Center, and Planetarium Shows.
There is also Inflatables, one of our largest events of the weekend that is on Saturday from 2 – 5 PM in the Rec Center. We will have 5 -6 different inflatable stations in the basketball court at the Rec center. We will also have balloon artists, caricature artists, a photo booth with free pictures, and face painting.
Two new events that we have added this year are a Record Breaking event on Saturday and Family Day on Sunday. The Record Breaking event will occur on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM – 12 PM in the Centennial Greens. We are having everyone dress up as black squirrels, in an attempt to break the record of the largest gathering of people dressed up as land mammals. During this event will be a DJ, decorating squirrel cookie station and people having a blast just hanging out and having fun!
Family Day is taking place on Sunday. In the past Sunday hasn’t been a day when anything has been planned. This year we wanted to allow parents to have a part in Lil Sibs weekend. We are kicking off the day with a family day brunch that families will register for beforehand, and pay for at registration. We are encouraging families to spend the day together walking around downtown Kent and also taking advantage of some of the on campus activities that are a part of the Kent State Community such as the Fashion Museum. In addition, KIC will be doing an open house where parents can come get some more information about KIC and the role that they play on campus.
In addition to these events there are also Residence Hall Programming going on throughout the weekend. All of our residence halls have either sponsored or co-sponsored events/activities throughout the weekend.
This will be a fun weekend for everyone that is involved! We are looking forward to the lil sibs arriving on campus and can’t wait to see all the reactions to everything that we have planned!
