In November 2012, Kent Interhall Council (KIC) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) attended the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (CAACURH) regional conference at Rutgers University in New Jersey.  A total of ten students and two advisors represented Kent State University regionally. 

 

At the close of the conference, Kent State was recognized in the following ways:

 

     Christine Francisco, KIC Director of Leadership Development and National Communications Coordinator, wrote and presented a bid for CLUE: Leadership Training.  This bid won the Student Award for Leadership Training and will be submitted nationally for consideration.

     Andy Sokolich, KIC President, wrote and presented a bid for Movers & Groovers 2012.  This bid was selected as a Program of the Year Finalist.

     Salvatore DeSanto, NRHH Co-Director of Publicity and Resident Assistant, was awarded a Cougar Pride Pin for his spirit, dedication and enthusiasm to the CAACURH region as a regional committee chair and to Kent State University.

     Beth Chambers, KIC Advisor and Residence Hall Director, facilitated a roundtable discussion for advisors called “Mission POSSIBLE! Challenges faced and lessons learned about advising new leaders in the residence halls."

     Brooke Bennett, NRHH President and Resident Assistant, presented a program called “You Better Recognize!” that focused on recognizing outstanding individuals on campus.

     Andy Sokolich, KIC President, presented a program session called “Special Agent Development” about developing a comprehensive training schedule for executive boards and student leaders.

More recently, KIC and NRHH attended the annual CAACURH No Frills conference, a business meeting where regional elections and award selections take place at the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia. 

 

At the close of the conference, Kent State was recognized in the following ways:

·    Christine Francisco was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for her years of dedication to serving the students of Kent State University in various capacities.

·    Danielle Melidona was elected onto the Regional Board of Directors of CAACURH as the Associate Director of Administration and Finance. She will be representing Kent State University regionally and nationally.

·    Andy Sokolich was recognized as the CAACURH President of the Year for making incredible strides with Kent Interhall Council.

·    Alyssa Galmish was awarded the CAACURH Student of the Year for her dedication to Kent State University.

·    Tom Ream was recognized as the NRHH Outstanding Member of the Year for his impressive dedication to the Black Squirrel Chapter of NRHH over the past year.

·    The Black Squirrel Chapter of NRHH was awarded the CAACURH Building Block of the Year for making incredible organizational strides in the growth of NRHH at Kent State University.

·    Danielle Melidona was awarded a prestigious Cougar Pride Pin for her dedication to excellence in creating resources for member institutions of CAACURH.

 

Kent Interhall Council and the Black Squirrel Chapter of NRHH are both affiliated with the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), Incorporated.  These organizations are responsible for programming, advocating and recognizing residents at Kent State University.
