Wireless Connectivity Coming to Residence Halls
In the fall 2011 semester, in an effort to improve internet services for university residents, wireless network connectivity will be brought into every residence hall on campus, excluding Allerton Apartments. Similar to campus wireless, students will log in using their FlashLine IDs and password to make use of the internet and any student will be able to access the network. If you have a non-wireless desktop, there’s no need to worry; ResNet are currently selling wireless USB adapters for $25.00 (plus tax). The set up of this service will be completed over the summer before students arrive for the fall semester. Fortunately, this transition will not affect summer students’ access to the network.
Wired connections will be disabled in this transition and only connected on an as-needed basis. Everyone in the residence halls will be expected to use wireless connectivity where possible once this is up and running.
Also beginning in the Fall 2011 semester, land line phone access will be deactivated in the student residence hall rooms due to minimal and decreasing utilization.
