Death of Family Member

Employees may use available sick leave during a period of bereavement for an immediate member of their family.  “Immediate family members” include spouse, mother, father, biological children, adopted child, foster child, stepchild, legal ward, domestic partner, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparent in-law, grandchild-in-law, and other persons for whom the employee is legally responsible, and anyone who stood in place of a parent to the employee as a child.

 

Sick leave granted by reason of death of the immediate family will not exceed five (5) working days.

 

To obtain your personal sick leave accrual rate, sick leave used and sick leave balance, log on to FlashLine, and then go to the My HR tab.

 

Employees are required to record sick leave in Kronos.  Employees not using the Kronos system should complete a Leave of Absence Request Form.

 

AFSCME employees should refer to Article 28 of the AFSCME Agreement for additional information.
