Recognition Programs

Kent State University sponsors various programs and events annually to recognize the many contributions of its faculty and staff.  Some programs are university-wide, while others are sponsored by departments, divisions, and regional campuses within the university system.

Listed below are several university-wide recognition programs sponsored by the Division of Human Resources.  Find more information on  other university recognition programs.

Milestone Years of Service

Staff employees are recognized when they reach a milestone year of continuous service with the university.

Classified employees receive a certificate and a service achievement award — in the form of a cash payment — at every five-year milestone. See  university policy 3342-6-07.11 for more information.

Beginning January, 2008, unclassified employees receive a certificate and a gift at every five-year milestone. Employees in this group will receive a catalog with a choice of gifts available and instructions for ordering the gift of their choice. Click here for more information.

Distinguished Staff Recognition Program

Please Note:  The Distinguished Staff Recognition Program has been suspended, to allow time for the division of Human Resources to restructure the employee recognition program.

The Distinguished Staff Recognition Program provides a way for members of the university community to show appreciation and recognition for staff members who contribute to excellence at Kent State:

  • Awards are given annually in five categories.
  • All classified and unclassified, full- and part-time employees at the eight campuses are eligible.
  • Nominations may be submitted by faculty, staff or students.
  • The recipients are recognized at a breakfast held during the fall semester.

  • Members of Kent State’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs help plan and participate in the commemoration.
  • The 2008 Veterans Recognition Event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 306 of the Student Center.  The theme this year is "Celebrating our Hometown Heroes."  Our guest speaker, Lt. Col. Dale Holland, U.S. Air Force, is a 1988 Kent State graduate. Holland is currently Deputy Director of Operations for the White House Military Office. While at Kent State, Holland received his military commission through the Air Force ROTC program.
