OneWellU - Wellness for a Lifetime 

The OneWellU - Wellness for a Lifetime workplace health promotion program officially launched March 23, 2006, as part of BeneFest 2006. The purpose of the program is to provide university-wide programs and activities that will assist Kent State employees and their family members in making voluntary behavior changes which reduce their health and injury risks, improve their health consumer skills, and enhance their individual well-being and productivity.

OneWellU, has a variety of programs at all campuses to help you live a healthier life. This includes the OneWellU Walking for Wellness and Weight Watchers at Work programs, run in conjunction with Recreation Services. See below for details:

 

  • Fight the Flu!    Flu Shot Clinics
    To fight the winter bug, OneWellU, the university's wellness program, and University Health Services are once again offering flu shots at several campuses beginning Tuesday, October 14.  The clinics are open to Kent State faculty, staff, and their eligible dependentsFor the flu shot schedule and more information see the Oct.6, 2008 E-Inside and the HR e-calendar.

  • OneWellU Walking for Wellness Program - Fall 2008
    The fall session of this popular fitness program begins Monday, September 15 at the Kent and Regional Campuses.  The 10-week program is open to all faculty and staff and runs through Friday, December 5.

Kent Campus

Participants can walk at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  The cost is $20 for SRWC members and $25 for non-members.

 

Employees of the Kent Campus can register at the SRWC Pro Shop; registrations will be accepted through Sept. 26.  There will be a welcome table in the SRWC lobby during the first week, to hand out gift bags to participants and answer questions.  Pedometers will be available for purchase.  There will also be drawings for various prizes throughout the program.

Regional Campuses

The goal for Regional Campus participants is to log 10,000 steps during their daily routine; the steps can be tracked with a pedometer and recorded in the walking log.  Each participant will receive a gift bag that includes a pedometer.  Prizes will be awarded throughout the program and a grand prize will be given to the individual who walked the most steps from all the Regional Campuses.

 

Registration for Regional Campus participants must be received by Sept. 15, 2008.  You can register online at www.kent.edu/hr/register.  The cost for participants of Regional Campuses is $10 (no pedometer) and $15 (with pedometer).  Make checks payable to KSU.  Send payments to the following address: SRWC, Kent State University, ATTN: Ben Cope, 1  Ted Boyd Drive, Kent, OH  44242.

  • Weight Watchers at Work on the Kent Campus
    OneWellU, in collaboration with the Department of Recreational Services, is once again offering Weight Watchers at Work. The popular lunch-time program will return for a fall session, beginning Sept. 22, 2008 at 12 p.m.  The first meeting will be an informative session.  Weekly meetings will be held at the SRWC on Mondays at noon (room number TBA). Please note the sessions are being held on a different day of the week.

Medical Mutual of Ohio is once again offering an incentive program for all of their medical insurance subscribers who participate in the Weight Watchers Program.  Click here to learn more about this offer.

  • Are You Ready to Quit Smoking? 
    University Health Services and OneWellU-Wellness for a Lifetime provide smoking cessation services to the university community.  This comprehensive program targets the goals of the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking® and the Mayo Clinic "Pathway to a Smoke-Free Future" ® curriculum.  Cessation classes are offered beginning mid August through mid June of each year, please call: 330-672-8267 or email skbriggs@kent.edu.    Click here for more information.
