Connecting to Wireless

Kent State Wireless, Kent State’s secure, high-speed wireless network lets you connect to the Internet almost anywhere universitywide.

Wi-Fi on Your Device

Locate and select your system’s wireless icon and choose the Kent State Wireless network. Use your FlashLine username and password to log in. That’s it! Your device will now automatically connect to Kent State Wireless whenever you are in range.

If you are having trouble connecting or if you are a Linux or Chromebook user, find instructions for wireless setup at support.kent.edu/wireless.

Accessing Wireless at Other Universities

Kent State is part of the eduroam worldwide system of wireless networks. Eduroam allows you to securely access the wireless network at Kent State and at other participating academic and research institutions.

Select eduroam on your device and log in using your full Kent State email address (including the @kent.edu) and password. When visiting a participating institution, simply select eduroam and your device will automatically connect.

Security Tip: Be aware of your network. Never use an unsecured network to do online banking or any other type of personal business.

Understanding Your FlashLine Login and Kent State ID Number

It is important to protect your FlashLine username and password and your Kent State ID number. These credentials are your digital identity at Kent State and are as important as your Social Security Number.

Your FlashLine username acts as your login for most campus resources. Your Kent State ID number is used to identify you within the university.

Never share your password with anyone. Only use your Kent State ID number for official university business.

Kent State Email

You can access your Kent State email account at email.kent.edu or by selecting the email icon in FlashLine. All official university notices are sent to your Kent State email address, so check your email often!

Flash ALERTS

Flash ALERTS is Kent State’s official emergency text notification system. Sign up to receive alerts about unscheduled university closings due to weather and other emergencies at www.kent.edu/flashalerts.

Security Tip: Always reboot lab computers before and after using them. Be sure to sign out of your email, FlashLine, and any other websites you use. Gmail and FlashLine don’t automatically log out.

Beware of Email Scams

If an email asks you to reply with personal information, it is most likely a scam, known as phishing. Never provide this information over email.

Do NOT send personally identifiable information in an email, specifically:

  • Kent State ID number
  • Passwords
  • Account or credit card numbers
  • Social Security number

Kent State will never ask you to send your password through email.

  • Only open attachments or links in emails that you are expecting.
  • Hover your cursor over the link to view the URL — make sure you recognize the website.

Kent State has made it possible to access a number of Google Apps using your FlashLine login. Google Apps makes it easy to collaborate with your professors and classmates by sharing documents and editing them simultaneously.

Access Google Apps

FlashLine: Select the Drive icon on the top right portion of the screen.

Desktop or Mobile: Install Google Drive on your computer, phone or tablet to sync your files while working offline.

Online: Sign in to Google Drive at drive.google.com.

Blackboard Learn

Blackboard Learn allows you to access online course materials, grades, assignments, and tests. It also serves as a communication and collaboration tool between students and instructors.

Access Blackboard on your mobile device.

  1. Download the Bb Student by Blackboard app.
  2. Choose Kent State University as your school.
  3. Sign in with your FlashLine username and password.
