FlashLine is Kent State’s portal that connects you to your email and other essentials you’ll need throughout the semester.

    Logging in for the First Time
    Your FlashLine username was provided to you in your admissions letter.If you have not yet logged into FlashLine, view instructions at support.kent.edu/flashline.

Understanding Your FlashLine Login and Kent State ID Number

It is important to protect your FlashLine username and password and your Kent State ID number. These credentials are your digital identity at Kent State and are as important as your Social Security number.

Your FlashLine username acts as your login for most campus resources. Your Kent State ID number is used to identify you within the university.

Never share your password with anyone. Only use your Kent State ID number for official university business.

Connecting to Wireless

FlashZone-WPA, Kent State’s secure, high-speed wireless network lets you connect to the Internet almost anywhere universitywide.

  • WiFi on Your Computer

    Locate and select your system’s wireless icon and choose the FlashZone-WPA network. Use your FlashLine username and password to log in.That’s it! Your computer will now automatically connect to FlashZone-WPA whenever you are in range.

    Accessing Wireless at Other Universities

    Kent State is part of the eduroam worldwide system of wireless networks. Eduroam allows you to securely access the wireless network at Kent State and at other participating academic and research institutions.

    Select eduroam on your device and log in using your full Kent State email address (including the @kent.edu) and password. When visiting a participating institution, simply select eduroam and your device will automatically connect.

  • WiFi on Your Mobile Devices

    Remember to connect to the FlashZone-WPA wireless network to avoid using data on your cellular plan. Find setup instructions at support.kent.edu/flashzone-mobile.

    If you are having difficulties connecting or if you are a Linux or Chromebook user, find instructions for wireless setup at support.kent.edu/flashzone.

    Connecting to Library Resources from Off Campus

    Important resources, including research databases, the OhioLINK catalog, and shared network drives, require a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection for off-campus access. Students can download and install VPN software at support.kent.edu/vpn.

Kent State Email
  • You can access your Kent State email account at email.kent.edu or by selecting the email icon in FlashLine. All official university notices are sent to your Kent State email address, so check your email often! For more information, visit support.kent.edu/email-student.

    Kent State Email on your Mobile Devices

    For instructions on how to setup email on your specific mobile device, visit support.kent.edu/gmail-mobile.

    Flash ALERTS
    Flash ALERTS is Kent State’s official emergency text notification system. Sign up to receive alerts about unscheduled university closings due to weather and other emergencies at www.kent.edu/flashalerts.

  • Beware of Email Scams
    If an email asks you to reply with personal information, it is most likely a scam, known as phishing. Never provide this information over email.
    Do NOT send personally identifiable information in an email, specifically:

    • Kent State ID number
    • Passwords
    • Account or credit card numbers
    • Social Security number

    Kent State will never ask you to send your password through email.

    Only open attachments or links in emails that you are expecting. Hover your cursor over the link to view the URL — make sure you recognize the website.

Security Tip IconSecurity Tip: Always reboot lab computers before and after using them. Be sure to sign out of your email, FlashLine, and any other websites you use. Gmail and FlashLine don’t automatically log out.


KSUMobile App

The KSUMobile app features a variety of resources for Kent State students. Use it to find your way around campus, access your course schedule, check your grades, and keep up with campus events and news.

    • View your schedule
    • Check your final grades
    • View interactive campus maps and get directions
    • Find campus dining locations, hours, and payment options
    • See your student account information, such as your Kent State ID number, Bursar account balance and holds, GPA, FLASHcash, and meal plan balance
    • View your employment records

Google Apps

Kent State has made it possible to access a number of Google Apps using your FlashLine login. Google Apps makes it easy to collaborate with your professors and classmates by sharing documents and editing them simultaneously.

  • Access Google Apps

    FlashLine: Select the Drive icon on the top right portion of the screen.
    Desktop or Mobile: Install Google Drive on your computer, phone or tablet to sync your files while working offline.
    Online: Sign in to Google Drive at drive.google.com.

    Using Google Drive as Backup Storage

    Google Drive offers unlimited free storage. Don’t risk losing your photos and other irreplaceable digital files. Save a copy of your most important collections to Google Drive. The unlimited storage provides ample space for everything! Find more information about free Google workshops.

Blackboard Learn

Blackboard Learn allows you to access online course materials, grades, assignments, and tests. It also serves as a communication and collaboration tool between students and instructors.

Access Blackboard Learn via the Blackboard icon in FlashLine or at learn.kent.edu.

Blackboard for Mobile

Access Blackboard on your mobile device.

  1. Download the Bb Student by Blackboard app.
  2. Choose Kent State University as your school.
  3. Sign in with your FlashLine username and password.
