Dr. William H. (Bill) Graves is Senior VP, Academic Strategy, at Ellucian. He helps clients develop actionable, IT-enabled strategies for measurably improving upon and accounting for mission performance. More broadly, he views the credentialing economy as a common-good resource that is critical to humanity's grand challenge to advance and sustain social, economic, environmental, and educational justice. His numerous publications and presentations accordingly describe and promote an IT-scaled credentialing economy that is more open and flexible than today's. This vision will require scaling up and sustaining educational justice and attainment while making credentialing more affordable to all of its economic beneficiaries: learners, credential providers, governments, and others.

During the 30 years before joining Ellucian, Graves served the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as math professor, dean, acting academic officer, senior IT officer, and founder of the Institute for Academic Technology, a joint effort with IBM. During those years he served on boards for CAUSE, EDUCAUSE, and the Coalition for Networked Information, and helped launch the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, IMS Global Learning Consortium, and Internet2. Now he serves on governing or advisory organizations for Antioch University, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science, IMS Global Learning Consortium, National Center for Academic Transformation, U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Post-secondary Education, and the International Association of University Presidents.
