Last year, IS helped over 51,000 students, faculty, and staff resolve their technology issues online, by phone and in person.
Information Services (IS) helps the Kent State community keep up with today’s – and tomorrow’s – technologies. IS develops and delivers training on many of the systems and applications used at the university. Training is delivered by various means from face-to-face classroom settings to online self-help tools.
To assist the university community with technology-related issues, support is provided through a variety of methods. IS Tech Help provides support by phone via 330-672-HELP (4357), as well as online through an automated support request system, a collection of self-service articles, and through live chat - all of which are available at support.kent.edu. Face-to-face support is centrally located at the University Library, as well as within a number of residence halls. For repair needs on personally owned devices, all students, faculty, and staff members can visit the TechHelp Service and Repair Center, located in the Tri-Towers Rotunda and the College of Business Administration building.
Information Services also supports those who support Kent State’s faculty and staff. Via the Federated Desktop Support model, we encourage communication and collaboration amongst the local desktop support staff of the university’s administrative and academic areas.

Each semester, IS supports over 6,000 courses in Blackboard Learn in addition to the technology in over 400 classrooms across the university.
Information Services implements, maintains and supports technologies that foster education both in the classroom and at a distance.
IS is responsible for the electronic instructional equipment – computers, touchscreens, projectors, sound systems, etc. – in the majority of classrooms on the Kent Campus. We also work with departments to design and install specialized systems when needed. Similar to classroom upgrades, a refresh program is in place to ensure that faculty members have up-to-date computers with which to prepare and deliver their course materials.
For students and faculty members beyond campus, Information Services maintains the university’s course management system, Blackboard Learn, which is used to deliver materials for hybrid and fully online courses. Faculty and students are provided with phone and online support, and training is available for departments by request. IS also develops tools to help create and deliver supporting course material and supports video conferencing for live distance-learning courses.

Information Services works closely with other divisions at Kent State to provide effective planning and development of solutions that enable each functional area to conduct business in a productive and purposeful manner. IS maintains the university’s primary database and enterprise-level software, providing access to necessary information through the creation of high-level reports.
We also maintain and support Kent State’s website content management system, which permits staff from across the university to maintain an online and mobile presence without the need to know programming languages.
