‘They Led the Way’ Exhibit Rescheduled for Feb. 13

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) will host the opening reception of “They Led the Way,” on Thursday, Feb. 13, FirstEnergy Auditorium, 340 Franklin Hall. The exhibition  tells the stories of eight students who desegregated Leon County, Florida, public schools 50 years ago. 

The work of JMC Professor Ann Schierhorn, the exhibition also features Schierhorn Exhibitphotography by David LaBelle, director of JMC’s photojournalism program. Mahlon C. Rhaney, Jr., one of the Leon County students, will be the featured speaker. Schierhorn, LaBelle, and JMC Director Thor Wasbotten will also make remarks. The exhibition premiered at the John G. Riley Center/Museum of African American History and Culture in Tallahassee in 2013.

4:30 p.m. – Reception and Gallery Viewing
5 p.m. to 6 p.m. – “Remembrances and Reflections” featuring comments from Mahlon C. Rhaney, one of the Leon County students

Franklin Hall is at 550 Hilltop Drive in Kent. Visitor parking is available at meters in adjacent parking lot.
