Kent State Falls to USC In CIT Thursday

In its 13th post season appearance in 14 years in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) Kent State fell to the USC Upstate Spartans of the Atlantic Sun Conference 73-58

This was the second CIT appearance for Kent State which participated in the inaugural event back in 2009.

The Golden Flashes have won three post season games in the past two seasons advancing the NIT quarterfinals last year and the second round the year before.

The Spartans (20-12; 13-5 A-Sun; 2nd) have had one of the largest turnarounds in Division I this year after winning 20 games combined the previous three seasons (9, 2008-09; 6, 2009-10; 5, 2010-11).

USC Upstate claimed three of the four major A-Sun awards (as voted upon by the league's head coaches).  Head Coach Eddie Payne was the Coach of the Year, Torrey Craig (16.8 ppg; 7.9 rpg) was named Player of the Year and Ty Greene (11.2 ppg) was named the league's Freshman of the Year.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

The full CollegeInsider.com Tournament bracket will be released Sunday night.
