Ohio Middle Schoolers to Gain International Perspectives at Seminar
More than 150 seventh- and eighth-grade students from northeast Ohio schools will participate in the 2007 Global Issues Seminar at Kent State University, Wednesday, March 21.
Up to two teams of students from each participating school will act as representatives of an assigned nation during the seminar. Students determine, from their assigned nation’s point of view, how the world’s resources should be spent to solve a wide variety of problems, including: stopping terrorism, educating children, sharing wealth, controlling HIV, or protecting the environment and the world’s food resources. International students and pre-service social studies teachers from Kent State serve as group facilitators.
The program is co-sponsored by the College and Graduate School of Education, Health, and Human Service’s Department of Teaching, Leadership and Curriculum Studies, the Center for International and Intercultural Education, and American Educational Consultants.
For more information, contact Jerry Brodsky, 330-998-2283, or Dr. Bette Brooks, 330-672-0536.
