Kent Classic Arts Presents an Evening of Classical Indian Music and Dance

Kent Classic Arts, Kent State University’s professional concert series, will conclude its 2006-2007 season with a Concert of Classical Indian Music and Dance at 7:30 p.m., March 17 in Carol A. Cartwright Hall.

“Kent Classic Arts feels the term ‘classical’ should not be restricted to Western European music, and when possible, it should satisfy the hunger for new sounds as a way to understand cultures other than our own,” says Ann Waters, coordinator, Kent Classic Arts.

The evening will feature a montage of classical Indian vocal and instrumental music and dance with national and international reputation.

Concert highlights include performances by world-renown tabla player Samir Chatterjee, celebrated Kethak dancer Archana Joglekar, and flutist V.K. Raman. The evening also includes performances by renowned classical Indian musicians Suman Laha, veena player from Lomita, Calif.; Poovalur Srinivasan, mridangam player from Denton, Texas; and Anupama Bhagwat, sitar player from Fairborn, Ohio.
